About Us

Greg Cagle

When did you get started in music? How? What led up to your interest in music?

Like so many other kids who grew up as a “boomer”, I first picked up a guitar in the mid 60s, influenced by all the excitement of the British invasion and particularly the Beatles. I took guitar lessons for 3 or 4 months, which was all I could afford back then but that was enough to get me into a rock band.

My first band was a 5 piece band called the Tantrums, which I joined when in high school. One of my fondest musical memories was the thrill of earning “Gimme Some Lovin” over at the bass player’s house one snowy afternoon when we were let out of school.

Musical inspirations?

Bach, Mozart, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Winwood, Curtis Mayfield, Chicago, BS&T (Blood, Sweat & Tears), CSNY (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), Eagles, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Moody Blues, Christopher Cross, George Benson, Earl Klugh, Tuck Andress, the Temptations, the Four Tops, the Stylistics, Van Morrison, Bob Marley plus an even longer list of others whose songs I have played and appreciate.

How do you describe your music? What type of music would predominate on your IPOD?

I love all kinds of music and you will find every kind of music on my iPod… classical, folk, country, bluegrass, soul, gospel, blues, rock (hard, soft and every other kind), reggae, etc. The only genre I haven’t particularly enjoyed is rap music, which I recognize is a viable “sound” but have a hard time finding it very interesting, musically.

When did you get started in music? How? What led up to your interest in music?

I remember being really exposed to music for the first time in 5th grade in the public school system in Concord. My first school music teacher Willie Gillon had just come off the road with Stan Kenton band as an up and coming sax player and he was a huge inspiration to me throughout those formative years all the way through my Herb Alpert and Al Hirt phases.

Then at the age of 15 while still tinkering around with local neighborhood bands where Greg and I first met, I got an invitation to play with probably one of the funkiest big horn bands and my exposure to old school influences such as James Brown, Wayne Cochran and the CC Riders, Sam and Dave, Otis and of course Wilson. All those cats always had the best and tighest horn sections and rhythm sections
